Spotify's own lyrics for Spotify tracks: a Spotify track now gets its lyrics from Spotify, line-synced where Spotify has the timing. Before, every track got its lyrics from LRCLIB through a title, artist and duration lookup, which missed many tracks. When Spotify has no lyrics for a track, spotatui asks LRCLIB as before. Local Files, Subsonic, Internet Radio, YouTube, Qobuz and Apple Music tracks still use LRCLIB only.
The spotify-tui pitch visualizer is back: while a Spotify track plays,
vopens the Spotify Pitch view, drawn from Spotify's own audio analysis: the strength of the twelve pitch classes (C to B) in the part of the song playing now, drawn as Cava bars that rise with the loudness of the music and fall with gravity, and the tempo, key and time signature of the current section with their confidence. It needs no audio capture, so it also works when Spotify plays on your phone or another device.Vcycles Cava, Bar Graph and Spotify Pitch; for every other source the visualizer opens on your saved style, as before. Compared with the old spotify-tui view, the bars now show the part of the song that plays now instead of the next one, they move like Cava instead of jumping, the last section of a song no longer blanks the screen, and an undetected key shows "?" instead of C.A desktop app (preview): spotatui now also comes as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux: the same player in its own window, with the same login, settings and history as the terminal app. The release page carries a Windows installer (
spotatui-desktop_<version>_x64-setup.exe), macOS disk images for Apple Silicon and Intel (spotatui_<version>_aarch64.dmg,_x64.dmg), and Linux.deb,.rpmand.AppImagepackages for amd64 and arm64. The preview plays Spotify only (Premium). The installers are not signed, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper warn on the first start; the README and the release notes give the steps past them. Closing the window quits the app after saving the session, and only one spotatui, terminal or desktop, runs at a time. On Linux it needs glibc 2.39 and WebKitGTK 4.1 (Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, Debian 13, Fedora 40 or newer, Arch). To drive it from a coding agent over MCP, install the terminalspotatuitoo:spotatui mcpis only in the terminal binary.A Spotify-style layout for the desktop app: Your Library sits on the left (Liked Songs, your playlists and Library health), the playing track and the next one in the queue on the right, and the player bar with the device picker at the bottom. Home shows shelves of recently played albums, your playlists, your saved albums, your top tracks and an artists mix. An album page shows the artists, the year and the length, with Play and Save to library; an artist page has the popular tracks, the discography and a Follow button. Every Spotify song row has a heart that saves the song to Liked Songs or removes it, and a menu with Add to playlist, Add to queue, Go to artist, Go to album and Share > Copy song link. The lyrics page shows the lyrics of the playing track and, when they are synced, keeps the current line in the middle while it plays.
A Settings page in the desktop app: the Behavior settings that apply to the GUI, saved to
config.ymlat once, as in the terminal app's Settings.The desktop app updates itself: installed from the Windows installer, the macOS app or the AppImage, it finds, downloads and installs signed updates from the latest stable release;
behavior.disable_auto_updateandbehavior.auto_update_delaycontrol it, and a.debor.rpminstall updates through a new download.Autoplay for native streaming: when a list ends, spotatui now plays related songs, as the Spotify app does. Spotify keeps its Autoplay switch per device, so spotatui could not read it from your account and always stopped; the new
behavior.streaming_autoplaysetting (Settings > Autoplay, on by default) decides it. It applies on restart.Fixed
Playback no longer stops after the first song of a session: when spotatui started and took over your last session, and that session had been started from a list of songs (for example with shuffle on), the song played but nothing followed it, and a song started after a paused launch made the next one load paused. The librespot fork 0.8.5 finishes such a takeover with the songs of your session and keeps the playing state in step with the player.
No backend rebuild when a list ends: when the native player stopped at the end of its list, spotatui took the stop for a stall, replaced the streaming backend after five seconds and reloaded the last song paused. A stop at the end of a list now ends playback cleanly.
A settings save keeps the settings of features the build lacks: a save from a build without a feature (for example the desktop app, which has no AI DJ and no terminal cover art) removed that feature's keys from
config.yml, so the terminal app lost its DJ keys and its cover art settings. A save now keeps everybehavior,keybindingsandthemekey the build does not know.A Qobuz, Subsonic or YouTube track started by URI shows its title: when the AI DJ or an MCP client's
play_nowstarted a track that was not in the track table or the search results, the playbar, the window title and the OS media controls showed its URI (qobuz:track:51628161) for the whole track, with no artist and no duration. spotatui now looks the track up once it starts: Qobuz in its catalogue, Subsonic with the server'sgetSong, and YouTube from the video page yt-dlp already reads for the download, so YouTube costs no extra request. The URI stays on screen until the answer arrives, and a lookup that fails leaves it there without stopping playback (#716).Search and sort in a playlist see your own edits: search and sort read the playlist pages that opening it had already loaded, and those pages were not refreshed after you removed or added a track in spotatui (also from another screen, MCP, the DJ or a Lua plugin), so a removed track came back and an added one was missing on a playlist longer than one page. An add or a remove now marks the loaded pages out of date, so the next search or sort fetches the playlist from Spotify again (#750).
